I'm not sure about the "color" version, here. I may change it back to the grayscale.

Anyway, yes. Unicorn. I drew him for my husband (who recently had a birthday. Happy b-day, sweetie~). I also drew him for me, the way I like unicorns, the way they were envisioned back when people believed they were real creatures. Back when if you went to the deepest woods of the most exotic places, you could find the cure for all poisons in the creature that represented the treasure of everything that becomes a young man. The creature that often represented Christ himself.

I have a desire to reclaim that sort of meaning in relation to unicorn imagery. I also have a desire to reclaim positive aspects of masculinity in our culture. Everywhere I look in current art, I see virtue and beauty related to female figures only. The few artists that use male figures in such a fashion get labeled negatively labeled "gay", turning virtue and beauty back into feminine aspects immediately. What is masculine, then? Agression and destruction. That's not right.

Screw you, current values. It's time for some re-evaluation. Beauty, serenity, life, mystery, and fortitude shouldn't only belong only to half the friggin' population.

He is gorgeous! I dunno how you did it but the way he's drawn makes him look so wonderfully soft! And those eyes... gosh I wanna pet him!

I'm so happy I found this art. So, SO happy. I'm rather vocal when it comes to discussing my stance on feminine equality, and I get stuck in that track of mind sometimes to a point where it actually becomes needlessly stressful.

It's pieces of art like this that make me take the step or two back that I need in order to see a different side, and I'm glad they do. Men do not always automatically have it easy just by virtue of their genitalia. There are so many occasions where cultural gender stereotypes enforced on men are as unfair as those enforced on women. I agree that it's wrong for men to only be accepted AS men so long as they get a kick from causing pain for fun and/or being domineering over both women and other men that are seen as "lesser" for one reason or another.

Men have every right to be kind and emotional; they don't need to be cold-hearted brutes in order to be respected/accepted among their peers. There shouldn't be any shame if a man wants to be beautiful, and it's sad that we live in a world where men are fearful in many cases of expressing any kind of gentle nature and/or desire to look beautiful, for fear of being labeled as "weak" or "gay", and even being chastised. I believe it is actually a sign of great strength and courage when men are open about their emotions and when they take an interest in physical beauty, and are not ashamed of who they are.

Anyhoo, sorry this turned out so long. I just started typing and... couldn't stop XD. Guess I had a lot more to say than I realized. This unicorn is absolutely stunning, and the expression on his face is so sweet. I'm always so happy to see a male unicorn. Unicorns shouldn't only be "for girls" (just as dragons shouldn't only be "for boys", I think). Beauty shouldn't only be for women. Human beings as primate animals have the right to feel beautiful, and to do so without fear of negativity :).
